Default About to take the plunge and buy one but...

Great forum. I've been lurking around for a few days and now joined.
I've been reading as many of the stickies as I can, and taking in as much as I can.

The hardest part seems to be deciding which one to buy. I thought about the EX1000, but then I read the first bit on flashing and it says to remove the power lead, then I saw a post that says you CAN'T remove it on this model.

Ideally, I'd like to buy one that I just plug in and it works (with all the ahem "extra" channels), then worry about all the flashing & cdf's etc etc when I know what I'm doing and when it's needed.

If I have to do all this first, is there anybody that sells you a complete kit of everything that you need - cables etc. I don't want to get me hands on it and then find I can't do anything with it until I've bought something else.

I'm assuming that following all the links, stickies and whatnot will get me the relevant software bits I need.

The other thing I spotted was in regards to Vista and problems. I only have Vista, or XP on a laptop and I gather a laptop ain't good either.

I've got a month before my ntl/vm box gets fitted so I know I've got more time to look on here.

If anyone has any info that can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. I'm now off to read the rest of the forums to see If I know anything that might help - share the knowledge as they say!

Look forward to becoming a useful member in time!

Hi

I very much doubt you will be able to get a box that you can plug in and just works cos as far as I know in the current climate all sellers are selling boxes as fta boxes only to avoid legal repurcussion.

So you will have to do some work yourself. So best to read and get as much info as possible. Im sure there are traders on here that can sort you out with the cables etc.

Regards

The eurovox model are imo 1 of the simplest boxes to flash even a child could master it.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, it's really appreciated.

I'm now trying to work out what the difference in all the models are. I know I don't need a PVR, I just want to be able to watch as much as possible, as easy as possible

If anyone knows what the differences are, please shout up.

Right - back to search the stickies!!

Well I think I may have it sussed.....
It looks like I need a little EX1000, an RF adapter, a null modem cable lead and a USB adapter for it. Does that sound about it? Have I missed anything?

I've also been reading up about the little white boxes that VM stick in your house. I've one in my (home)office where just my bband is connected. Does that mean I could effectively run a lead from that and have another in my office.
Many moons ago I also had analogue cable and have a wall socket in the bedroom where another box was connected. I'm not sure without diving behind some furniture, but I think that was just an aerial type single socket. Could I run one from there as well do you think?

If it is possible that I could use one of these additional sockets as well, could I plug the VM box into it and leave the Eurovox downstairs as a stand alone box?

Sorry for all the questions, I have been using the search facility, honest
