Default streaming around house via LAN

Im thinking of having one point of entry for all of video, (sat/cable) into house. is there any kit that will take the feeds and let me stream it on home network in reasonable quality, the network is going to be a wired cat5. is there such things like lcd tv with rj45 that could pick up the stream or would it have to pc based.

just after some info at mo.

I am in the middle of doing the same. I have gone for a Media Centre Server with extenders in each room to play back. There are media centre extender cards available as a plug-in for some TV's. But only available for HP Tv's I think. Which I am not really interested in.

Some Loewe TVs can stream, ie have RJ45 sockets. The only manufacture that I know of at the moment.

There are several products that will do this to provide hd or component over cat 5 starting from fairly cheap to ridiculusly expensive you could also invest in a cheap modulator and ditribute using RF over coaxial cable. ebay is your best bet search for HD or component over cat5 this will give you best possible picture ensure all screens have the necessary inputs.

I'm not sure but i think on the cheaper end ones especially that you can't run a pc network on the same cable. Things could have moved on since I last looked at this sort of kit though, but something to watch out for.

Just checked on ebay and the two that came up when I searched are point to point, I don't see why you couldn't split the cable but you couldn't put it through a router and then just carry either component or vga over a length of cat 5.

Netstreams do a system which is capable of distributing component signal over a home network although I recommend keeping all av on a seperate network for improved performance also smart e & gefen both do systems that can distribute over cat 5 to multiple screens also with multiple inputs.Look for something that is ir or rs 232 controllable and invest in something like a pronto remote control with wifi base to control all your devices from anywhere in the house.
