Its not a talk talk router. Just a modem mate.
The talk talk modem may have both connections but it can only assign 1 IP address to one device.
Therefor you cant have both on at the same time.
Your mate is probs best off buying a cheap router, wireless or wired or both.
You can get them really cheap.
£20 off eBay at least lol.
The router then can give out 2 addresses or more and you can use both devices on the net at the same time.

P.S. Your mate will need an ADSL Router.

If it's a modem once you unplug a usb or ethernet cable and plug it back in you will need to switch it off then back on again

You can access the internet and XBox Live at the same time with your setup. You need two ethernet ports (or a wireless and ethernet) in your PC to do it because you can create a gateway so that the XBox can access the internet as well as the PC. Let's say you have these, right click on the main internet connection and select sharing and enable internet connection sharing.

Connect the ethernet cable from the PC to the XBox and make sure that it has a Dynamic IP address on the computer and the XBox. Do the Live test and everything should be fine. If not, send me a PM and I will do my best to help you out .
