Default External microphone on Vaio with Vista

Hi

Does anyone know how to make an external microphone work with vista, when I plug mine into my Vaio it disables the internal microphone but doesn't enable itself.

Regards

Default Re: External microphone on Vaio with Vista

Hi Billet, I don't have a mic to test here, but give this a try (borrowed from another forum) :

go into control panel / sound

Find the Recording Control tab in the configuration window for the audio

There MAY be two different microphone devices shown. Make sure that the external microphone is connected in the microphone port before going further.

Where it says "Alt Mic", there will be a slider and a couple of selection boxes. Directly underneath the slider there will be a option box to make the "Alt Mic" active rather than "Microphone". "Alt Mic" refers to the microphone port, Select it

Click save and then close the window

Double click on Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel. Click on the Voice tab, then click on Test Hardware to test to make sure that the microphone is working properly.

Follow the prompts so that the microphone can adjust to the voice of the user

good luck!

also, make sure it isn't listed as a disabled device when you go into the sound properties!
