Default EX 1000 SL - picture breakup, some channels, low signal level - advice?

I have a Eurovox EX 1000 SL. Generally works well, but has significant picture break up on some channels, fine on most.

Looking at the channels under user setup, it appears that of the 16 "channels" it detects, the lowest frequency (434Mhz) and highest (650Mhz) - along with one at 498Mhz - have very poor and varying signal level & quality level. All the intervening frequency blocks have 70-83% rock solid signal level.

The problematic channels seem to lie on the 434Mhz band. I have adjusted the frequency slightly up and down. Going up actually improves the reported signal/quality level to around 67%, mostly stable, but renders the channel utterly unwatchable. At 434.000Mhz, the signal level rarely gets over 40/50% but has the least breakup.

Am I right in assuming that in this situation an attenuator would not help?

I have no other boxes/splitters fitted - this is straight to the wall socket. All the wall sockets in the house (NTL - fitted when the flat was built) have TV/FM outlets (so presumably already split/filtered).

Any advice?

There is only 1 firmware release for the SL (apart from the FTA it comes with).

No signal options I can see at all (was looking for booster option)

Hmmm, tried swapping out the (long, old) coax cable for some short ( sub1m) hi-grade Coax but it's made only a marginal difference for the better.... ..although that leads me to think I have a signal/interence problem, which is annoying, as it's unlikely to be cured by either a booster or an attenuator...

Blimey, a sea of post regarding the key changes... getting swamped!

Anyone with advice? I've got a 10db attenuator I will try tonight, just in case, but I'm not hopeful...

I had the same problem with my Euro SL1000 - fitted a variable accentuator - adjusted the side switch per channel - perfect picture.

Ok Thanks. Bit odd that attentuation will improve channels that already have very low signal, when the strong signal channels work.

Only thing I can think of here is a form of Auto Gain control across the frequency spectrum causing a problem.

I have a sl1000 and have the same problem with some channels jumping and breaking up. Borrowed someone's evox 2008 model and that worked a lot better, all the channels were great!
I had been assuming that the signal booster was just better on the 08 model due to the decrease in size of the unit on the sl...
Would an attenuator help in this circumstance?

Wouldn't you use a signal booster with that low strength signal?
