Try entering the BIOS and loading the default settings, save and exit, you enter the BIOS by pressing a key on your keyboard, usually Delete or F1, you will see a message telling you how to enter the BIOS set up on boot up.
If this fails please post back with more information regarding your computer and more details on what is happening, any on screen messages you're getting and if there are any beeps from your computer. Also try pressing the F8 key on boot up and selecting safe mode, if it boots up go into System Tools and try a system restore. Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System restore. my friend
the only way of finding out if its a software probelm is to wipe your hardrives and install windows again back up your data from your old drive first this can be done by various options then reinstall windows if you get an error during the reinstallation take note of the error and post it back here |

When you say you have tried the repair option what exactly have you tried?
Is your hard drive still recognised in the BIOS? You might just need to make a new MBR (Master Boot Record), if it's a boot up problem on the hard drive. Otherwise you can either try the simple commands chkdsk /r or scandisk /r from the repair options on your Vista disk. I'm not sure which commands apply to a Vista disk, check google for Vista repair options, it should state which commands work. |

when i try to repair from my disc i boot from disc then it comes up with install windows or in the bottom left corner it says repair, ive clicked on repair, a box comes up showing the vista on my hard drive then it says next ,i click next another box shows up, a blue searching box comes on as if its searching for a fix,so ive left this screen on hoping that once this stops it will be fixed, but after about 2 hours same screen, if i go onto my bios the harddrive shows up
thanks |

You could try leaving it for longer, like overnight, but it sounds like the repair option isn't working.
If it's giving you the option to load Vista, and the hard drive is recognized in the BIOS, then there's a good chance that your hard drive isn't damaged, although the only way to be sure is to let Vista attempt to load the operating system files onto your hard drive. if you type Vista repair options into a search engine you come up with lots of useful information like this article: _http://vistasupport.mvps.org/windows_vista_repair_options.htm But seeing as your computer wont get past the first stage there seems to be a problem. The easiest way would be to re-install Vista but then you would lose all the data on your hard drive, unless you already have it backed up. Can you remove your hard drive and put it into another computer, as a slave, then you could try to access it from that computers Operating System, and even try to run a scanning software utility. |
