Default Someone please confirm my dish/motor elevation/declination settings??

53:32:16N (53.53791)
1:24:46w (-1.4128)

90-53.5 = 36.5
MOTOR @ LAT 53.5 OR ELEVATION 36.5

DISH @ 29.8

Is this correct got my dish up and it doesn't find thor when i move to it, just wanted to make sure i've got this lot right before i start faffing!
My pole is bang level by the way... on T&K's !
Also for some reason my tm3000 moves back to hotbird whenever i've done anyone any clues why?
AND... will this work with usals??? (i tried disecq)

Thanks in advance...

If memory serves, the dish should be roughly 30 minus the declination angle, around 22-24 on the dish bracket. Pretty sure mine is, and I live near the same location, or thereabouts I have a 65cm dish, and had trouble finding Thor, so once I was certain I had due south, I moved the dish to 28E and set it up on Astra, then when I went back to Thor it was there.

The dish declination angle varies depending on the motor manufacture.

The Motek SG2100A for instance for your area would require a dish bracket angle of 22.4. If you have one of these then you are too high. Check your user manual again.

As for USALS - yes use it in preference to DiSEqC 1.2. Much easier for setting up.

Don't worry about the declination setting, it is mostly a waste of time as the scales on the backs of dishes are often wong anyway. Just start of with the dish face pointing up a bit, and and adjust for best signal on Thor 0.8W

i've got a tm2200 and a fracarro penta, as i read it i'm at 1 so my declination is virtually nothing??? am i at least getting that right for the motor?? can someone explain how the 22-24 angle is arrived at?? I want to have an idea what i'm doing and my brain is getting a bit frazzled by all the elevation/declination/azimuth rhubarb!!!

Hi, Forget trying to frazzle your brain, it is unnecessary.

Get it all working, and worry about the theory after, when you can absorb the theory at whatever rate suits you.

Just set the latitude markings on the motor correct, and whack the dish up with the dish face roughly vertical or pointing up a bit.

use USALS to send the motor to THor 0.8W, and then adjust the tilt of the dish and swivel the whole assembly around the pole to get the best signal on 11325H.

BTW, your declination will not be virtually nothing, you are over half way up the earth, the sats are over the equator, so the dish still would have to point down a bit, even though they are 22,000 miles away.

And when you have got it working, have a look at this waffle:-

I drew that once when I actually did understand what all the figures were.

Turn away! and shut your eyes! and forget you saw it.

I only did it for educational purposes, it is totally over the top for any thing else.
