Nobody seems to have mentioned how to kill the original virus other than spybot or going into sys32

Neither have worked for me. Indeed, neither have actually found anything related to it.

Little help?

Had Kaspersky recommended to me a while back and have found it to be much better than any other virus software.

OK so I have downloaded that stupid winrar from download.com and got the intervalhehehe. I have read through the threads and some have been very helpful. I have gotten rid of the pop-up but I am still not able to use google or even check my clearwire e-mail. I have checked the Hosts file and I see a bunch of IP addesses then websites but no "localhost" is anywhere in there. I have tried to download HostXpert and it worked once but now it can't find it anywhere on my computer. I would appreciate some input because I have no idea what to do.

Just delete the host file and reboot the PC...a new and clean host file will be created automatically. No need to faff about with trying to repair that file anymore. Make sure you back up the original file incase the new one is not created. If it is not just amend the file you have by opening the file with word pad then just paste whats in the quotes and save then transfer back to where you took it out from. IOr just download a copy of my host file. You can open it in word pad to ensure there is no junk in it before using it.. Replace the *** with rapid

Superb advice and information. The only extra bit I did was to first remove winrar using add/remove in control panel then I didnt have to find the rogue explore.exe. I only had to clear the contents of the host file in windows/system32/drivers/etc using wordpad. this worked a treat thanks again for the help guys
