Default Com Port Question

Ok I originally updated my box via the serial port on my old PC. I've since gotten rid of the PC and got a laptop. Laptop does not have a com port, would a serial to USB lead do the job for me should I need to update the box in the future?

Cheers guys

Although I should add that a couple of us had probs when using a serial to USB, got into all sorts of pickles with COMS ports and having to go into BIOS. In th end it was much easier to just take box to work and did it using PC serial port. Have now got a serial port card for laptop.
