Well I havent a clue how its gonna be paid for :P (will indefinitely be buying everything (or most things) from ebay).
To get the CAT5 down to the ground floor, I've went down through an old boiler cupboard, under the floor to the top of the stairs and have got about 6 cables in a big bundle running down under the bottom ledge of the bannister. We laid the cables when we put in real wood flooring so they were kinda permanently placed under neath the floor boards. Screwfix do Modular Outlets for F-plugs, aerial outs and CAT5 which is what I've used. The F-plug and aerial ones are VERY well screened and Ideal. Another plan was to not fork out for a freeview aerial and get a dish, stick some digiboxes in the cupboard and use digieyes at the other end. Would have to go direct from digibox to digieye with no distribution or I would be stumped. Does anyone know if the pace or samsung ntl boxes can be used with a system like Digi-eye which is built in?

Hmmm that sounds like an a good idea by sticking a dish up.
Why dont you just stick in Satellite ports and Cable Ports then? but suppose if you wanted to do the Digieye version suppose u cud stick a Aerial feed into the sky digibox, it would then send down terrestrial signals down the digieye and use a freeview on that. Thats what i did for a while until i got VM in ma room. Im thinking of re routing the sky feed though as that doesnt get used, its just downstairs in the living room poking out of the living room decor lol. Maybe give the satellite scene a go maybe. I love tinkering round with electricals and DIY-ing ![]() Tis gonna be fun. Think it will be the new year when i do it as thats when ill have money. a car is just too much to run at the moment :\ |

Well teh digieye would look so much neater at the TV (we've got 15" LCDs mounted on the walls in the rooms).
A little black bubble thing sat on the top - and I've got a collection of digiboxes in the families lofts. It would be two feeds of coax (ntl quality), even for the aerial, so If I wanted to feed satellite down there it would be a case of switching an LNB feed in the cupboard over to the end of that cable at a patch panel style thing. But I'd like to run the Terrestrial as all of the TVs have freeview built in - bah, why even use a digibox on free? My mind gets ahead of me. I just think because of the location of things, a dish would be easier but too much fuss with digiboxes and LNBs and stuff. We have a pitched roof so it could be mounted just above that (its accessable by the landing window) but for an aerial, I'd have to get my dad out the velux, get the old aerial ripped off, route that cable into the loft cupboard for sending signals down to the living room and bedroom (ooh a new idea), get a new aerial on the mysterious aerial mount which is stuck to the chimney (simply just tighten the bolt and it should hold it right?). With places like GRAX (I have a webdesign business - good enough for them), I can get aerials, cable and everything at a really good price, delivered to my door. New aerials and the likes would probably be a job for the summer - but there never is one in the UK anyway - especially by the coast. I really tend to ramble on about ****e sometimes sorry.

my mate signed up for wirgin and wanted it in his bedroom. he only signed up for bb but was gonna put a ''chipped' box in too... the fitter told him that due to new heatl and safety, and with it being just bb, they were not willing to go round and up the side of the house and up a ladder. so they just stuck a point in the hallway of all places and told him to get a router.
he later signed up for a minimum tv package and told them he wanted it in his bedroom. they told him they wanted £40 to come and wire around to there, but when he asked can he do it himself, they said yes... so they just send him the ''self install stuff'' and a fitter even came and dropped him some crimped cable off... so they can be that fussed... i think as long as they are getting ur money, then u could paint the cables pink for all they care... |

yeah, im pretty sure you can do what you like in your own home!
if you are renovating might aswell go to town on the comms while the floorboarda are up. for the price of coax, its well worth running it even thou you have no near plans to use it. you never know.... in about 5 years time your kettle and toaster might have an ip! |
