Default MAPLINS BIG RIP OFF today

I called into Maplins Wrexham today,to obtain a satellite dish motor, this was on sale on Friday at £49/99, well not being a mean sod, and having to go to Wrexham today, I obtained the motor, the salesman said that will
be £49/99, I said wheres the 2.5% discount for vat, salesman said the till will have discounted it, I asked for a print out which said

1 @ nett £49/99
Nett total £43/47
tax total code b 15% £6/52
Total £49/99

I said this is wrong how can the price be £49/99 on Friday yet there
is a shown 2.5% discount today vat at 15%. Asked for the manager
who gave me some guff, that all Maplin goods are already discounted
and prices would remain the same, he had to agree Maplins had
added the 2.5% vat saving to the goods, he then went on to say
he was as surprised as me that Maplin had taken this stance, nothing he could do, surgested I phone up Maplins HQ , I said your Company is acting just like the Govt with petrol, cut the vat 2.5%, then increase the fuel duty 2.5%. I said This may be only £1.25 I should have saved, but keep
the dam goods ill go elsewhere, lots of red faces and a good few people
walked out, so be warned Maplins are nothing but a rip off outfit, never again will I buy from them On principle.

Yes I agree with you, but are you surprised?

I'm not. TBH I can't see many retailers who sell their goods with VAT included in the price, reducing it because of the lower VAT rate. Besides it is only a piddling amount, it won't make much difference to the everyday things that we buy.

I don't think that Maplin is any worse than the other retailers.

Agree, I always question what I dont understand, perhaps I see so many rip offs, I dont find it embaressing to haggle and know when to lay off,
the Maplin saga is just like the old days of budgets, beer up penny a pint
fags up etc old stock increased immediate before new stock comes in,

Anyhow customer credability is what is needed in a resession, people are not daft and dont like to be ripped off, be it £1 or £50, Maplin have a lot to learn, you wont find Tessie Cohen trying this on or Southern Sat.

I don't think that you would get very far trying to haggle with major retailers like Maplin.

I have never tried though. Although I have asked for a price match on a few occasions, but it is not worth the hassle that you get, and the time wasted.
