I have had the modem connected direct to PC for a few days then to Mac for a few days speeds always drop to 2-5MB how can I tell if it has been capped, The operation config for the modem says Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000 so is this the 20MB.
Not using any P2P or anything. |

if u do more then 3 gigs a day ur getting capped
trust me, there is nothing wrong with the BB i istalled them for 4 years, most reasons are u got spyware, viruses ect, or on a wireless best thing is how are u testing this speed? u can only get a real check on speednet or downloads straight from virgin gamefiles site

Run spybot, AVG, every otherday so clean there, PC was only re-formatted 2 weeks ago as I thought it could be that, Using Speedtest and Namesco, Download speeds from Virgin gamefiles is 60-140Kbps Soooo Slow. Never mind gonna downgrade to 2MB, Whats the point in paying for 20 if ya can't get it.

Hi I'm having the same problem as you. I pay for 10mb broadband with V/media and only get 3 to 4mb on a good day. I was thinking of going back to my old 2mb i was using before.
I'm currently downloading a file from bittorent and its coming in at less than 10kb/s its taking forever. Does anyone know how to make bittorent downloads come in faster? Thanks for any help. |

How are you measuring your speeds?
I'm on 10mb and browser spped and test report about 6mb max, but direct file downloads get 10mb and sometimes 11mb download speeds Torrent speeds are determined by the client, and are mostly crap speeds |

Just remember it doesnt matter what config your modem is using, could be 100mb but if you are a long distance from the exchange and have a very week signal then you will always hit a bottleneck in speed. For example my friend is using 20mb however he never gets above 15mb yet mine never dips below 20mb untill I hit the daily cap ofcourse...
