when i press F9 to get in to boot menu all i get the the options to
Boot in to last known good configuration or safe mode options! what is goin wrong with this

This sounds like the options I get when pressing F8, for boot up options into the hard drive.
If you start up your PC with the XP disk in the DVD drive then you should get a message asking you if you want to boot from the CD, all you have to do is press any key on your keyboard to do this.

Are you trying to do a fresh install of XP, which will wipe out any Operating system and information you already have stored on your hard drive?
Or do you want to fix the current operating system?

switch on pc try f2 or delete.
u need to change first boot device in BIOS to cd-rom

i know when i do this it just boots up!

im tryin to wipe it

Can you please post more details of your computer.
What information do you see on screen during boot up, regarding how to access the BIOS?
When you say it just boots up anyway, is this after changing the boot up options, or do you mean you can't enter the BIOS to alter the boot up sequence?
It sounds like the XP disk is not being recognised, can you try it in another PC to see if the disk is working?

Yeh thats true because not all versions are bootable versions you may just have a upgrade xp cd which is non bootable.

Its xp black 4.0 I CAN GET IN TO BIOS AND CHANGE SETINGS WHEN I DO THIS IT LOOK AS IF IT IS GOIN TO BOOT THE LOADS UP.
