Why would you buy a box that the programmers will eventually ditch? It shows that down the line, they will do this with whatever they produce in the future! Dbox's, DM's still supported 5/6 years later..older Starview's nothing. Ok we have to wait and see, but most places seem to be saying that support for older SV's is OVER! Think ahead...normally better features enticed you to buy the next box, not withdrawal of support. They WILL do this to future models too! So best left alone methinks...they will destroy themselves eventually!!

Very true and totally agree. The support for Starview is just not the same as linux based systems, which seem to have huge support and will be supported as years go on. Starview will struggle

I just realised that the Linux systems are open source! This is incredibly important!! For future reference, I'd avoid these guys like, a very big thing I'd avoid....

Virmin Media will introduce a "next generation" delivery and conditional access system to replace its existing digital cable television service
A conditional access system (CAS) is a system by which electronic transmission of digital media, especially satellite television signals through cable, is limited to subscribed clients. This is called conditional access. The signal is encrypted and is unavailable for unauthorised reception. A set-top box containing a conditional access module is required in the customer premises to receive and decrypt the signal. CAS is now becoming a significant concern for major companies in the DVB-H market because broadcasters are looking to control the digital signals that they will be broadcasting. so will any box work at all. this is starting 2010 Last edited by flint; 02-12-08 at 07:15 AM. Same here, I have a Starview 2 which I have had for about 12 months. Until the AU stopped working I thought they were fantastic.
So what box would you guys recommend in terms of continued support? |
