Default nul modem cable

for a change, now for something completly "different"
got an rs-232 cable from maplins months ago, never had to use it until a few months ago when i got a second box,sv3. tried to download but no joy.checked everything again and again, finally decided to use the cable that came with the 2nd box(1st one didnt have one) bingo worked 1st time, so can use it to d/load latest stuff. now to my question, at last. what is the difference between the 2 besides one being called a null modem cable and one an rs232 cable? they both look the same and both fit my pc and stb.
cheers folks, hope this helps others as well.

There are a few types of RS232 cables and they are all wired differently. The Null Modem RS232 cable is actually similar to a crossover cable used in Ethernet installations to allow full communication between two hosts. Most other RS232 cables only have a few pins connected.

Hope that helps!

No, they are different. The member who posted at the same time as you explained the difference.
