noob guide to update a dreambox 500c

hi guys i need help to update a dreambox 500c ive done a update before using a rs232 cable and using dreamup. but now ive gotta put this new rom 7 on it but the only process there appears to be is using the ethernet port. well guys i need a nice simple plain english guide on how to do this and wot software do i need, i have the update file off the tcb toolbar, i fink i need a program called fxp to do this, also i have not got a crossover cable but have got a router so i need the process get it connected it the router way, iam using windows vista aswell, i can get use of XP if need be. i aint done any ftp or anything like that b4 so iam sorry but a idiots guide i will require. thanks anyhelp will be great

Im the same, have updated the dreambox before using dreamup but have never updated using FTP. If someone can offer some help I would be greatful

ok i managed to sort it i brought a crossover cable and did it all channels up and running now

items needed a crossover cable, a program called flash fxp, and some basic computer know how.

conwaycc if ur still stuck with urs just let me know i will try and help as best i can.

this is from another post but it helped me, see if u can make sense of it if u can than no doubt u will flash ur box m8.

alot quicker to ftp m8 as long as the internet settings of the box are set to something like 192.168.0.5 and say your laptop or pc is set to 192.168.0.1
just run your flash fxp software click quick session ip of box (ie) 192.168.0.5 user name is root password is dreambox it should then log you in and on the right hand side you look for the file called var click that one then you should see keys file in there should be the roms just send new rom 7 image to the box it will say overwrite say yes job done then restart
some people are deleting the other roms but it seems ok to leave the old ones in hope this helps you a bit more m8 credit to topcat
