Hi there guys this is my first post and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but i cant find it.
I went to maplins and bought a usb to serial lead, then i asked for the null modem cable aswell. Instead the guy told me to buy one of these mini gender changers instead as it was cheaper. Its basically changing the male end of the serial cable into a female end so that it fits into the back of my eurovox box. Tried to flash with new firmware it doesnt work. Is this because ive not got the null modem cable? If so ill go and get one but dont want to waste money if all that i need is the gender changer. Thanks in advance guys.

if you need to use a serial rs232 to usb as an adapter into your comp from your null cable, make sure the adapter is working as i went through 3 different ones before i got one that worked (sounds strange i know 2x maplin, 1x elseswhere). How you will tell if it is working, once all connected the "download" prompt screen will write "verifying" or "version 2.0" this will show you it is connected and will allow you to press "start". |

A fella in Maplin told my mate not to bother buying one of these, infact he said 'we've had lots of people in wanting these to use with their cable boxes and they dont work'
Now I dont think thats 100% true but it shows how problematic they can be, which is a ballache, because Ive just looked on the back of my desktop PC and I dont have the right serial connection, which is a pain, means me dragging my box round to someone elses house to flash it, bah. |

try START, R click on my computer, PROPERTIES, HARDWARE, DEVICE MANAGER, PORTS AND SERIALS. it will show which port, if any, the usb adaptor is connecting to, select this to download with.
