Easiest way to hack cable modem?

Hey guys I was wondering what the easiest way to hack a modem is?

I don't really wanna have to solder anything together or take anything apart!

Is there a way to do this ? Thanks guys

Buy an Ambit 250 and a Max232 cable, all available off ebay. Search the forums for information on how to flash it, this in my opnion is the easiest method. It requires no soldering and the Ambit 250 modems typically have the most availability. You will also need another MAC from your area (in a different UBR) however all this information can be found by simply searching the site.

just want to double check something if you dont mind,
when connecting the ambit 250 to the max232 cable
is it just a matter of pushing it in and making sure its put in properly?
meaning no need to solder it together or anything??

btw will it still work perfectly if the rs232 lead from the max232 connects to a rs232 to usb connection to the computer?

hope my questions make sense and dont sound stupid! lol

ambit 250 is I DOCSIS and will work on telepest in b'ham right?

Yeah just clip it on, only thing you can do wrong is put it on the wrong way round, if so just simply power off the modem, remove the cable, spin it round and plug it back in. Also I use the serial to USB for all my flashes and I havent had a problem to date, however many people using vista have reported problems.

It will work indeed, providing you have the setting right and have a MAC like i said you will be online. Just keep reading the guides and what not you will get there.

That will work just fine, however certain ambit modems need to be soldered with different cables to flash them. If you dont want to go through this pain then I reccomend the ambit 250/255, just a heads up to not just get any Ambit Modem

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but would the adapter linked just be connected to an ambit 250 modem without any soldering and enable virgin media's 20MB service now, and when it changes to 50MB, will the ambit 250(providing its flashed) also have 50MBPS? Oh, and will these "hacks" work with Vista?

Yes no soldering required, providing you set it up via flashing the firmware and configuring it you will get the 20mb service. The Ambit 250 Is not capable of 50mbps and yes the hacks will work with vista, the only issue you might face is if you are using a serial to USB adaptor as these have known issues with Vista.
