Default rs232 vista & nagra edit problems

hi guys& gals need some help here if you can
new laptop(with vista) didnt have a com port so i purchased one of these
Laptop Expresscard - RS232 - Serial -1 Port on eBay, also, Other Laptop Accessories, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 07-Dec-08 16:29:25 GMT)

have installed vista drivers , have updated infinity usb phoenix software to latest, have tried nagra editin normal & windows 98 mode,, checked all comport settings match with my pc,,still cant get it to read anything

i notice in device manager it shows as a prolific usb-serial bridge & the lead that goes into the expresscard is like an ethernet connection with normal nine pin at other end

has anyone any ideas what could be the problem as there is something doing my nut in here & im unsure if its vista or the expresscard.. infinity usb phoenix works fine on my pc

thanks in advance
