Default USB Port not working

My PC's USB Port is not working and I need it badly as I have to use Digital camera and other USB devices. THe USB port is giving power so it is not out of function but I think some setting has disabled it and I dont know how to & from where to enable it. Anyone has any idea?

Did you try the hardware manager at the control panel? It will tell you what problem your usb has...

I have had this problem in the past within windows xp. In my case it was because I was foolishly closing down the usb port rather than safely disconnecting the usb drive when I had finnished with it. The only way I could get it back (most of the time) was by using the windows xp administartion management tools to reassign a drive to the usb port mannually. It would then appear as normal on explorer etc.

I did this a few times until I finnaly figured out what I kept on doing. Not sure if this is the same problem but you could have a look with the admin tools to see if the usb drive is shown without an assigned letter.

If I rember correctly, the problem was being caused by some virtual drives being assigned drive letters and xp not then being able to determine what the next avaiable drive letter should be. I think the problem disappeared when I did a clean install of xp!

As always with all things windows, if all else fails, re-install.
