question about location of dish

Hi All
i want to do a self install of motorised dish i live in merseyside and in a terraced house the front is south facing but cant put the dish there would like to put it at the back of the house but think the roof and chimney stack could be in the way, ive read somewhere that someone had the same prob but just raised the dish with a 5ft pole ? i want to make sure i can receive most of the satellites for the 3pm footy games plus dont want to buy everything i need and to find out its no good, any help would be much appreciated as ive asked else were but to no avail

In a similar exercise, I rigged myself up a simple gadget using a protractor and a plumb-line, and then used that together with a compass and the needed angles (azimuth and elevation) for your location and the particular satellite from dishpointer.com

I've seen explanations, together with diagrams, somewhere, but don't have the links to hand.

You can mount your dish on a pole, depending how close it is to the obstruction [your house]. 3pm footie is a whole different subject, that you'll find in other threads.
