Seriously the main difference is the basic version doesnt have the Aero Glass interface

Stick vista basic vs premium into google and you can browse liks all day

BUT I might have to have one or the other unless a firm launch date for Windows 7 is announced.

Stay with xp unless you have a very good reason to upgrade.

Check the specs of your computer very carefully before upgrading - if you are short on ram dont even think of upgrading.

Very true but they are starting to cost more than a Vista Machine

Hopefully I can fix the problems and make my present PC last until Windows 7 cames out and is evaluated. and I always have the laptop with Windows ME.
