Default An intelligent request for help

Evening everyone,

Having read a number of posts now about how to flash my max v box (ronster's guide amongst others) I felt I was ready to embark upon actually carrying it out, however I'm having no luck with it.

I've managed to download the "UFL_MAX_V_30_11_08.exe" file through another forum, the chatterbox toolbar seems to be non functional at the moment (it will allow me to download older files, which look to be hosted on bigmaq's site but when clicking on the newest ones it takes me to a blank page (streamlineftp.net), I'm assuming their server is down). I've tried downloading the keymaster v1.2 but that's having the same problem, and yes I have refreshed the toolbar.

I've connected my desktop PC to the box via null modem cable. The port has already been configured as Com1 (I'm an IT technician so at least I know how to do that!!).

When I click the upload button to upload my cdf to the PC the uploader displayed "Version 2.10 detected" with the start button available to select, then displayed "Com1" with the button greyed out. Unfortunately it went back to the "Version 2.10 detected" message and just cycles between these 2 for a bit until the TV screen said "Memory failed..."

Just wanting the box flashed and not caring THAT much about the channel order or favourites I continued on.

I switched the box off and pressed the big download button at the top. The uploader gave me the option of what com port I wanted to use, 1 to 4, and said to power on the box. I chose com1 and it then says "awaiting response". Unfortunately after 15 mins now it's still saying that and hasn't uploaded anything.

I was starting to think the null cable is faulty but I've tested it with another device and it's fine.

So can I ask if anyone has any ideas on how to get my max v flashed? This is especially frustrating for me given that it was relatively quick and painless the last time, plus the nature of my job means everyone thinks I should have no problems here.

I have the same problem saving cdf's (memory failed)
But i can flash them no problem if your seeing "Version 2.10 detected"
your pc is connected to the box so flashing should be ok,maybe try another lead or test yours with a multimeter.

It's ok, I worked it out...

DISCONNECT BOX FROM THE TV!!!

seriously. Thanks for the suggestion though. I've lost all the channels but they were badly sorted anyway. Will do full power scan to get them all back then re favourite them.

talking to a friend today he has got the same problem his OS Vista he has a new cable so im thinking its either a cable problem or something to do with the OS.
If you resolve it i would be gratefull if you come back and report. Also what OS are you running.
AS for the cdf ive found that i can upload the cdf after a first setup but not after favs have been changed weird.
I found this as after several attempts at uploading a cdf from several V boxes without success so i tried with a box after a fresh install and setup and it uploaded without any probs.

moneydollar do you mean switch ports within device manager to give the port a different number or within the uploader to choose where to upload to?

If it's within windows device manager, right click on the my computer icon, from the menu that appears click manage, in the window that appears choose device manager on the left and a list will appear on the right. goto ports (com and lpt) and your com port will probably say something like "communicaton port (com*)" where * is a number theoretically anywhere between 1 and 64 i think.

if you mean within the uploader i was actually only given that option while the tv was connected to the box. once i unplugged that it was seamless and worked exactly as it should. if yours isn't working try using what i've written above about using device manager to change the number for the com ports, but the uploader should automatically detect which one you're using.

Gary you'll need to change the port setting of the usb port. go into device manager as i've described above, into the com port settings, right click the usb device you're using, then i think it's properties, advanced, port settings and it gives you the option to change to any number.

steven, make sure the tv is disconnected from the box if he's having the same problem. also make sure vista isn't setting the port to be something weird. I know from the PCs we buy in my department that most modern vista PCs no longer come with parallel or serial ports on the motherboard, so am guessing it's a usb cable he's using.

for the record i'm using a custom install of Windows XP SP2.
