i have just brought a rs232 lead to USB but it is a male connector not a female so brought a gender changer from maplins but i cannot get it to work any suggestion as i just want my eurovox to work again

I dont think you have the right cable,you have to be sure that you have a null modem cable that has female connections at both ends,there are two types of cable,they might look identical but one is just a plain ordinary serial cable....
