I need to know this too,

While putting the new nagrarom7.bin file on, it appeared to connect and work using un=root and pw=dbox, but now any ftp operation fails using this login, or any other combination I've read of.

I just need to reset the password so I can be confident that I'm using the right one

tried dbox2 as well, same result.

I think my box has some permissions issue, as even through the dbox interface, any settings I change (ip address etc) appears to be saved and committed, but when I leave the screen in question and then reenter it, all the original settings are back in place.

It's not commando either (tried that). It's supposed to be root and dbox.
I can browse the dbox from my pc via ftp, just don;t have permissions to write or delete?

Gone readonly - can that happen?

Oh dear...but that would explain a few things - I managed to copy over the nagrarom file initially, but then everything locked up permissions-wise, and as well as the nagrarom7.bin file, there is also a nagrarom7.bin.old and nagrarom7.bin.new file pair sitting in there - suggesting it has got tangled up in that initial copy.

Two quick questions:
What files need backing up?
Can you point me in the direction of an idiot's guide to reflashing?

Ta very much in advance
