Default my samsung ntl box

Had this box for best part of 2 years now. It is now behind the settee dead! The display light and channel display do not light up. I checked the fuse in the plug (ok) not seen any reset buttons which could bring it back to life. Any known faults with this box such as what I have described?

Bit more info would help diagnose the problem.

What is the exact model of the box?
Was it working then it suddenly stopped?
When you plug the box into the mains do any lights at all come on the box?

Hi its a samsung smt 2110c. Just pulled it from behind the settee, dusted it off and plugged it into a plug socket. The red on off switch is glowing red light. I havent connected it to the incomming cabletv cable. The display green channel light doesnt come on at all.
when this fault 1st showed up I remember it would go off and come back on over night. Eventually, it stopped working completely. Kind of miss it now cos it was good to watch stuff which I had missed when 1st shown. I think u will know what I mean.If it can be brought back to life would appreciate any advise. I dont fancy getting busy with a soldering iron though! Hope it is a case of pressing some buttons to revive it!
Cheers

Well the fact that the there are any lights coming on at all is something!

To start with I would say plug the box into your tv with a scart lead, just leave the cable feed out and try to turn the box on and see what happens.

Maybe try booting straight into the em menu.
Hold up and down buttons then apply power to the box and continue to hold the up and down arrows and see if the box boots up.

Let me know if anything at all happens

danny,
connected scart lead to tv out and scart on tv. Held down < > buttons then plugged in clover cable into back of NTL box. Nothing happened. Tried the same thing again only using ^ v buttons. At this stage should something appear on the box or the tv screen?

Yes if you held in the up and down arrows then applied power to the box, you should see the LED display begin to load then it should boot into the em menu.

When you held in the arrows and applied power to the box, did anything happen at all? i.e. did any lights change on the box or did anything display on the LCD on the box?

I have never personally come accross this my problem myself but it doesn't seem to be too good.

Not exactly sure how it is done on a 2110, but on other models there is a red jumper inside the box. If you can get to it, try and pull this for 10 secs and try again. Maybe on this model you will have to short the battery not entirely sure.

Can't guarentee this will work but trying to think of anything.

Hopefully someone with an answer will read this thread!

sounds like power supply problem ,6 capacitors probably need changing open up and check for bulging at the top or swap with known working one

its a 2110, before you spend time doing anything make sure you have the bk for the box, without that even if you do get it going it will be door stop.
