Default Struggling to decide what set-up is best.

Hi, As the title suggests i'm unsure what set-up to go with. All i really want is freesat and eurosport (in english). As i'm going to buy new kit, is it best to go HD? I'm also toying with motorising the dish, which may of course be necessary to pick up eurosport. Any advice most welcome.

Free to Air Eurosport in English via satellite is ONLY available in analogue off 19E, but is likely to cease in 2010. All the fta digital releases only carry foreign soundtracks.

Whilst it is possible to watch Eurosport via compromised pay tv providers availability changes from month to month. With several routes having been closed down recently and others going soon, to be honest if you are desperate to have ES then you would be better off subscribing to Sky.

£17/month for one pack - you need the news & events mix

The simplest option will only have one shortcoming -- Eurosport will be in German. That simplest option is to buy e.g. the Humax freesat HD or the new Humax freesat HD PVR, both of which can drive a motor, and then get a motorised dish.

For guaranteed Eurosport FTA in English (at least for now), add a cheap (about £25) analogue receiver to above suggeste set up.

So am i right in assuming that you don't need a different lnb for analogue and digital. I have (somewhere) an old analogue receiver. How would you go about looping different receivers together? Ok the motorised dish would be powered from the digital one and once at 19e the analogue would be able to pick up the signal. Is there some kind of switching device that could be used to swap between the digi and analogue receivers?

Ah cool; if you already have an analogue receiver then you are halfway there! The simpler/est way to go about it is this: the main receiver will have an LNB Out port; you will make a short cable and connect from that Out to the LNB In of the analogue receiver. I have one connection like that.

Edited: I am hoping/assuming that the Humax has LNB out; if not, and you do not want a different receiver from the Humax, then one other way is to use a twin LNB and connect one cable from that to the analogue receiver.

Thanks for the offer petrolhead but i'm going the HD route. Was thinking of the technomate 6900 HD, are the any good???
So if i run two coax cables to a motorised dish and connect a twin output LNB, i'm assuming that I could hook up both my analogue and digital receivers which would enable me to achieve getting both eurosport (in english) and all the free stuff out there.

Correct. Why not put a quad up and run another cable to your bedroom and get a cheap FTA receiver as well.
