Question Starview 2 Box

Hi,
My box details are as follows:- API ver: 4.51_E. Boot ver: 7.0.
Since all the premium channels vanished, I have been successfully updating the key codes on a daily basis. I have now found the V8.02 firmware which I hope will auto update the key codes once installed.
I would appreciate any guidance on how to do this, as when I received the box the software (gtrom) was on a disk. I'm told that this has to be used whilst updating. Is this correct?Confused !!!

Hi Mark36,
Thanks for that. Have been reading through the posted messages and sort of understand the process! Just confused as to why I need to insert my software disk.

Hi All,
Still confused! What is a logo file? Also when the 8.02 from TBC opens it displays ver 4.03_051005.exe. Is this right? I'm also given a choice of 6 options, app file only, boot file only etc. Which do I need and is there an order to download? Still don't know if I need my original disk in either!

I'm only guessing but it may have your gtrom loader and some other firmware on it. Personally i'd forget that for the minute.get the 4.54 on the box and then 8.02 from downloads. You may need to ask around for 4.54 because i couldn't find it on here and i dont want to mention other forums where i found it.I think its against the rules

Hi,
Thanks for comments so far. Reading between the lines there are loads of you out there that are successfully fixing the boxes! Any chance of a "Fix your cable box for dummies" ? Not all of us are technicians.........I don't understand half of the lingo used!

This is what i did last night that worked for me:

download the starview 2 uploader file which includes the v4.03_051005 updater file and the thebox_H20071130_802E_api file.

Connect your box to the PC, run the v4.03 exe, select channel data file, then press upload (it should prompt you for a file location) and let the PC upload your channel info from the box.

Then close the v.403 application and reopen it. Then select the app file only option, click the bin file button and select the thebox_H20071130_802E_api file.

Then click the download button and let the download complete.

Then close the application, reopen it and select channel data file option but this time download your channel data file.

Turn off your box, reconnect it and go into the 1570 menu. use the reset default key menu option, check that your key emu is set to on and do a rescan. You should now find that your box picks up the keys automatically and everything works as it should.

Hope that helps.

And as an added benefit, the new firmware seems to make the epg populate much faster.
