Default Running flashed modem Question

Hi If I run a flashed modem should the original modem still be connected via a spliter and turned on, Or just the cable connected. Or is it safe to just run the flashed one.

Its safe to run the flashed one alone, a lot of people will try to convince you otherwise but its perfectly fine.

Thanks for that, When using another MAC does it give you a different ip address from your original cable modem?
And should the MAC be changed regular even if it is working fine or is it safe to keep using the same MAC?

I would like to know the answer to daydreamers last question please.

Also, benyboybob, you said it's ok to run the cloned modem alone.. This is what i'd prefer, however, dont you have to spoof the MAC address of your NIC card too? I read somewhere that the NIC and the modem MAC address are known by VM so if a new modem with a different MAC address was used, wouldnt they click on at all?

Could I solve that by installing a brand new NIC??

Regards,
KangoChad

Different MACs can and somtimes will change the IP address, this is not really a concern.
A lot of people change the MAC a lot, the fact is it doesnt really make a difference either way your running an illegal MAC so your chances of being caught remain the same. Virgin dont find things unless they are looking for them, dont bother spoofing your NIC, even if they had your NIC they arnt going to ask the manufacture where they sold that card too, then aska a retailer who they sold it too, seriosuly...

Bottom line is you could run a modded modem directly connected to a live feed and the computer for a very long time and the worste thing that could happen is it will stop working...

Thanks alot benyboybob, you have answered the most feared questions of mine.

These were the only things stopping me from going ahead.

Say if i were to 'obtain' a new MAC from a different UBR and used this on my clone, wouldnt my ip address still be the same? dont vm know that this is my IP?? Fingers crossed, im hoping your going to say that it will assign a new IP as it is a new modem!!

Thanks alot for your help, it's really appreciated. I do read alot around different forums but I just cant get my head round some of the more technical stuff such as the Telnet so i reckon im gonna purchase a 'here's one I made earlier' jobby from someone who knows how to flash.

Thanks again.
