Ok, i'm a complete noob when it comes to things like this. I've just signed up for the Virgin XL package with wireless broadband. They supplied me the wireless router (Netgear WGR614) and i already had a dongle (ADDON).
After a week of trying to connect it all myself, i've finally got my computer to find the router, yet it still wont connect to the internet. Yet, i can only connect wired using an ethernet cable from the router to my pc. However, when i tried to disconnect the cable, finally got a wireless connection, but still no connection to the internet. So i tried to restart my pc and it has lost the router again and now wont even find it connected wired. Not through the Virgin Wireless Manager anyways, but my LAN picks it up. I need help, i dont even know if i have my connections set up right, or even the settings in my dongle if they are correct. I kinda need a step by step guide from scratch for a dummy like me to make sure i've done it all right and where it is i have gone wrong. |

right u connect the cable from your modem to your router make sure u plug it into the right socket u might have to use a rj45 from the router to your pc to set the router once u done that log onto the router and set a wep key to secure your wirless connection once u have gopt that done then do a net work search for the router put the right wep in and should work
sound to me if u have not connected the modem to the router it does matter whitch socket u plug it into |

I've tried to get a WEP key through the wireless network set-up but my pc is giving me a WPA-PSK key which is way too long. I type it in and i get an error stating it's too long.
When i called Virgin, they told me my passphrase is the same is my network key, so thats what i've been using. |
