Help With USB to Serial Lead Required

Hi all,

I have bought a USB to serial lead but I am unable to update. I have installed the driver and I have changed the port settings to COM1 (from COM8) but still no joy. I am running XP. Any ideas???

This has been asked and answered lots of times. Try reading the posts before adding new ones, it clogs up the site.

But to answer your question, the USB connection is usually good for recognising the attachment of the box but not for updating. You will need to find a pc with a serial port on and connect it directly from pc to cablebox. That will work.

anyway as Phil says,try to find a pc with a serial port as these usb-serial-adapters are a pain in the arsse. You could get a pci/express card(What ever they are called,lol?) which should do the job.

I had exactly the same problem. I solved it by taking the lead back to the shop, then buying a serial PCI card & installing that in my pc.

i never had any trouble with a usb to serial. Have you tried the prolific drivers

if u persist in usb adaptor, try going into device manager, advance and reducing speed, it will slow down transfer rate but greatly improves connection.
