If you're looking to just connect your existing cable box to your PC monitor, google for "SCART to HDMI converter". To get the signal from your box going into your PC for playback/recording you'd need an analogue capture card and software to run it.

The main purpose of this forum, if you search around a bit you'll see what I mean, is to be able to plug your cable input feed (aka aerial) into your PC and have your PC decode the signal and display/record the picture - effectively taking your box out of the equation. It's not cheap, and it's not easy but once it's up and working it's brilliant!

Have a look at some of the threads on the forum and you should get the idea of what's possible and preferable.

Good luck.
