Default Possible virus causing no internet access ??

Hello all I'm new to this forum so hope I'm not repeating a previous post.

Whilst trying to sort an e-mail problem out I was hit with a new window which was supposedly scanning my computer with Virus response 2009 and suggesting I needed to buy it off them. Then a porn site came on so I switched off at the wall. I switched back on without my modem connected and the virus response page started up again. I went to my start up folder and stopped it from running on start up and then deleted it with add/ remove. The computer was scanned with super antyspware which threw up a few major threats and deleted them. I also ran mailware and this did the same and I removed the threats. Avg scanned the full computer with no problems found.

The problem I now have is as follows

1. After loading up 20 seconds later I get a message to tell me my speed touch connection is now connected ( it never did this before I manually connected).

2. Windows explorer tries to load up, google hangs and then says its not responding. No other site can be loaded either

3. New e-mails which I know I've got cant be downloaded.

I'm on Orange through the Thomson speedtouch modem connected to the BT phone line.

Any help greatly accepted.

Mark

Try system restore to back a week or so then run antispyware again with internet disconnected just to be sure, some viruses create backups .

Can I just do an XP repair instead of a full install ? When I bought the computer it didn't come with a Xp disc, can I use any disc as long as I put in my registered product license key ? Do I just need the mobo and graphics card drivers to do the full install ?

Sorted it out now. Just ended up " flattening it" (as they say in work) and re installing Xp. Just wish I'd done this earlier !!!

Excellent response to the post though.
