Default Going to buy a eurovox

So I may be buying a Eurovox. I know there are a lot of stickes. But I am a complete newbie so I don't even know which stickies to read. If you have time I'd appreciate it if you gave me a few places where to start.

Where do I buy the box and make sure I don't get ripped off?

What is the basic idea behind the box, how does it work?

What kind of work will I be looking to put into the box?

And obviosly links to good tutoriaks will also be very appreciated....

Is this the best box? What are the differences between the different boxes?

I will greatly appreciate it if you experienced guys answered at least a few of my questions, I am sure it would save a lot of time for me...

Alright, Im not an expert by any means, but I know how daunting it can seem to begin with so Ill try and help you out

Where do I buy the box and make sure I don't get ripped off? I think most people on here will refer you to a member called Lincsat on here

What is the basic idea behind the box, how does it work? I beleive they run on the Linux operating system, which is 'open source' meaning anyone can creat whatever they like for it.

What kind of work will I be looking to put into the box? Not much, if youve got a live cable feed coming into your house youll need to run a length of cable from that to your box, you may need to purchase a spitter, but they are only a few quid. Even upgrading the firmware every so often is easy enough if your fairly IT literate

And obviosly links to good tutoriaks will also be very appreciated....

Is this the best box? What are the differences between the different boxes? thats open to opinion I suppose, Ive got a Eurovox and I think its sound, although Ive noticed Kryptviews are cheaper and seem to get the quickest updates when needed, but its entirely up to you.

LOL

To newbie - forum can be intimadating.

Normally buy from forum sronsor Lincsat - but 1000s in short supply and listed as unavailable just now - go to fleabay, find the most ridic price remote control you can find (£30) and it is a hint auction to get to semi-reliable seller who will sell you the box. 1000 or 5000 or old stock Eurovox Max V

The box picks up every single channel on your cable input can give - everything from sports to soft poern

Normally they come ready with instructions how to do auto scan - then delete the 200 channels you have not subscribed to........LOL

Tutorials for most difficulties are in sktickys at top of page

Thanks a lot guys. So which model of eurovox is the best, or how do the different models compare to each other?

The 2 current new models on sale at the mo are the ex1000sl and the 5000 (if you can find a seller with stock!). The 1000 is yer basic model that does the biz, the ex5000 is a pvr which means you can have a laptop sized HD in it to record stuff when out. But the 5000 still only has one tuner so you couldn't watch the girlie movie on premiere while 'taping' the boxing as in last Saturday!
