Question Complete beginner :(

Hi all,

First off this looks like a great forum so grats to all the people who made it so.

I was wondering if someone could point me towards some resources so I could read about flashing modems etc. The haynes guide that was mentioned in another post(s) is unavailable and I'm really starting from scratch

What I have currently: 2x virgin modems, 2x lines, pc a mega will to try this out and lots of repect to give to whoever helps... not much I know Any kind soul out there willing to even provide step 1?

Thanks in advance and I hope I haven't missed something obvious!

Peanut

Ok if you are not soldering you will need a MAX232 cable which are readily available off ebay, guides etc can be found

LINK REMOVED
You may need to post before you can download, however they have guides for just about every modem.

hi benyboybob - just thought I'd drop you an update as I've gotten a little further.

I've got my cable and don't want to solder. Some people are telling me an ambit 250 HAS to be soldered for JTAG. Can you confirm this?

I was using dhcpforce to grab a few macs (I got quite alot but only a few had config files listed) but am I ahead of myself? Should I flash my modem with hacked firmware first? I'm not sure of the steps and the how-to Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Probably unrelated if you are a DIY man, but a good idea may be to buy a pre-modded one from ebay. Thats what I did, then you skip most of the hard stuff.

Just do a simple search for infinite modem or sigma modem or whatever and read the description. I was lucky - I got a good seller who provided me a disc with all the software I need and some instructions.

And of course, you have the great mob here who are very friendly and always looking to help out.

Do not buy an infinite premod, its a waste of money.

buy a haxorware one, it works on all the same modems and is far better.

Question Re: Complete beginner :(

Hi I am also new to this but have been doing some research. It would appear there are 2 choices infinite or haxorware. Question I have ambit 120 and 200 will the mention firmware go on these and if so what are the latest versions that can be flashed on them as it appears that from what I can see haxorware is only available for the ambit 250. Thanks for all replies.
