Thumbs down Re: virgin internal memo....dodgy boxes.

O dear,

Here we go again.

Cable boxes have been here for a while, its not a new thing. Dream, Nokia, Samsung, they have all made cable receivers. Not just Rayyonics. These receivers can be used in UK and have been sold here. These are similar to eurovoxes.

The reality of this whole thing is, all these "operations" are a waste of taxpayers money. "Scenes of Crime" and overhyped memos. Look at the over-hype in the mrmodchips case.. (Search google for "This case today sets a major precedent which makes a milestone in the fight against piracy")...

If theres a problem with a product, get an injunction. Stop wasting hard earnt taxpayers money

Companies like VM should put effort into making their services better, upgrading their outdated equipment and toughening their encryption. But i guess wasting taxpayers money is cheaper and easier.

£90k for a company of that size is neglible. Hardly a breakthrough. But really, now their job is to make a case.. But shouldnt this have been done BEFORE the "Operation Koblenz" was done? And the fact is, this company was also making products that had nothing to do with the cable industry (sat receivers).

The memo is laughable. FFS this is not a drug bust against armed criminals. It is a company that is trading in products. GO GO GO, LMFAO. Have a sandwich, go to sleep,

I hate all the hype and how dumb people can be.

Please try to put some common sense into things before following overdone media hype. VM should spend the time and effort into updating their encryption to a more updated standard. Using outdated encryption and persuing this stuff is illogical. Even PCIE-DVBC tuners are becoming available, and what are they gunna do? ban them?

TBH if it wasnt for the 'dodgy' boxes then VM would probably be more in the red.
This because most people would like to keep their feed live. They will either buy the broadband or tv package (which will come with the phoneline) so at the end of the day VM are still making money as people want to keep their feed live. Yes there are people that take the risk and could be disconnected at any time, but like me i get the broadband just so that i have that guarantee that the line wont be d/c and i have help at hand from the VM team if the service goes down.

Also bout the Rayyonics thing, their only making boxes that can be used with the FTA firmware which isn't illegal obvs. Yes their are the illegal firmware also, but Rayyonics doesn't encourage nor ship their boxes with this firmware, not sure if they ship it with any firmware from stock.

At the end of the day its people that deal them out in large quantities that will be done for fraud as they will most likely distribute them with the 'illegal' firmware on it.

If you use one of these boxes you run the risk.

I understand Rayyonics prosecution went ahead in the begining of January 2010. Does any one has any further news regarding the trial? What is the outcome? Is the trial still in progress?

what was the point in a raid knowing vm were starting to switch over to n3 late 2009 the boxs would be useless. i find it appalling as a tax payer to find you and i funding such a raid (bit late to complain i know)- 10"s of thousands of pounds and probably hundreds of man hours worth of lack of intelligence would of been spent in organising and arranging dawn raids and as was said in a few earlier posts, if plod raided the warehouses, would the boxs seized be fta, making a prosecution harder to be obtained..

12:30 - The Virgin Media cavalry arrives to start taking away the seized set
top boxes, they're loaded into vans and taken away where they'll be securely
stored as evidence. (Quote)

This quotation is what exposes this as a spoof yarn! The writer must not know that only the police have a legal right to sieze evidence. (Remember!! These are not like the old "chipped" vermin boxes that they could walk in and seze if they suspected fraud)
