Default Flashing Help

Hi, after reading some advice here i thought i would try and flash my dbox via ifa, this is my first time and not to good with this kind of stuff, i followed quavis guide and i when it got to the part of connecting the dbox to the pc it kept saying waiting for the dbox to start up. I connected the box via a normal ethernet cable as i have a router is this right??

Cheers for help guys.

is that correct? im following the guide posted by quavis and it does not mention u have to use a null modem cable, just a crossover ethernet or straight ethernet cable. also should i switch off my modem and router when doing this!

the ifa should say that flashing is not possible without null modem cable, personally ive never tried without, would be handy if it didnt need it as i could use my laptop to flash instead of needing the serial port, will give it a try now and let u know results
and yes it wont work unless you disable your other network connections

Cheers

didnt work for me mate, have no problems flashing with null modem on my pc, you can flash dbox with one lead using flashxp personnally i havent tried that software but it would work, do you have a pc with serial port?? the null modem cable goes from serial on pc to rs232 on dbox, but it must be a null modem lead not standard serial lead, got mine from maplins £9.99 i think

hey guys

just to answer the question about the null modem cable being needed when flashing with ifa,,,

ive never used a null modem cable nor never been asked by ifa to connect one.

in fact from what i knew the null modem cable is used when flashing in a different way and when used with ifa it sends back data from the dbox to the pc while flashing...

so just to clear that up i dont believe a null modem cable is needed at all usuing ifa if it did then ive been doing it wrong for the past 2 years and my dbox doesnt work lol.

just use ifa and your laptop/pc and a cross over cable or normal ethernet cable if you have a hub...

if you have any trouble use the media sensing patch on your pc to help it see the dbox starting up. also it can take a few attempts for your pc to see the dbox booting when ifa is running so try a few times.

sorry to anyone that says a null modem cbale is needed , no disrespect but that is not right in my experience in fact i think it just confuses matter.

keep it simple and keep trying, it will work !!

regards dave
