Setanta Sports is proud to announce it has signed a multi-million pound deal to broadcast the Guinness Premiership from 2010 onwards.
Under the terms of the agreement, Setanta will screen 43 live games a season, including the Guinness Premiership final and one semi-final.
”The substantial increase in income and coverage for the Guinness Premiership is fantastic news for our clubs, their supporters and sponsors," said Premier Rugby chief executive Mark McCafferty.
"It is a reflection of the growing attraction of club rugby.
"We are delighted to continue our relationship with Sky Sports, and look forward to working with Setanta Sports on delivering more matches from the Guinness Premiership than ever before.
"For rugby fans, the new deals mean that every weekend there will be a choice of three live televised Guinness Premiership games on Setanta Sports and Sky Sports, plus a free-to-air highlights show featuring action from all six games."
The new three-year deals will commence in the 2010/11 season and will see the number of live televised Guinness Premiership games more than double the current 33 to 69 a season.
In addition to the live rights, Premier Rugby has also concluded broadcast agreements for the Guinness Premiership’s highlights, broadband and mobile offering. Details of these agreements will be released at a later date.

Premier Rugby, the body which represents the 12 English professional clubs, has signed Thursday a contract for 54 million pounds (60.7 million €) with two television channels to broadcast live Premiership matches until 2010.

This three-year contract with Sky Sports and Setanta is an increase of 45% compared to the agreement that was reached between Premier Rugby and Sky Sports. The number of live meetings will also significantly increase, from 33 to 69 per season.

"This substantial income and coverage of the Championship is excellent news for our clubs, their supporters and sponsors," said Mark McCafferty, chairman of Premier Rugby. Indeed, many English clubs are struggling with financial difficulties as a result of the current crisis.

Far more likely they will go bust and all this coverage never happens. Spending mega bucks in the middle of a major advertising downturn and recession is nuts.
