thanks i have downloaded and will try in a bit and let you know what happens - can someone tell me if this changed the whole ip address or just the last few digits

OK this is probably a silly question but can i change my IP of my laptop if i am using it through a wireless connection? i tried to change the mac and it changed but the ip is still the same - how do i check if my IP has changed? i tried ipconfig/all but it is giving me a differen IP address as to a certain website

You can check your IP adderess here.

My newbie status stops me posting links

Just add the www bit at beginning and dotcom at end.

thanks for the link - i am using a router - and i have one pc on an ethernet connection and one laptop on a wireless connection - both show the SAME IP address - this means the IP address is comming from my modem? (sorry if i sound thick) basically i need to change my modem IP address which is a subbed modem -

log into routers admin page and change the wan/ethernet mac, then reboot modem and router
