I would appreciate some help please, whenever I click on my USB hard drive icon in MyComputer I get presented with the Search box. I have tried everything I can think of to get my USB drive to open with the Open box as a default but without success. I am sure there must be a very simple solution.

I came across a similar problem recently. Go into My computer and open it. Then go into Tools - Folder Options and change the settings so all files including system files are shown (not hidden).
Right click on the usb drive and explore. Have a look to see if there are any .ini files hiding on the drive Make sure that all files are visible again - sometimes the settings drop off. If you see an ini file in the root of the drive move it elsewhere temporarily and try the drive again. If it fixes it delete the ini file. Switch the folder settings back if you so wish. This will also fix problems where the "choose a programme list" appears when it shouldnt.

AnalogSat, tried what you suggested, found two .ini files lurking in folders, moved them safely out of the way but no success, the default on left clicking my drive icon is still Search. Thanks anyway for your suggestion.
J72fan PS, there was a system information folder which I could not open as access was denied? (I am using an administrator account on the system). Nothing in the root of the drive though. Last edited by j72fan; 12-12-08 at 01:45 PM. |
