Its going to fry your brain

Not a problem though, we'll be here to answer your questions and help you all the way mate

Your shopping list will be as follows (Mostly downloadable )

1. Dreambox edit from _http://www.i-have-a-dreambox.com/wbb2/index.php - Its in the database section

2. Technomate Control Center 7 from the Allsats forum

3. A decent Image:- DS4.0, UR14 and Andromeda are the best ones to start with i would say. (EDG Nemesis is a good image but its a bit hit & miss with motor control )

4. 1 SD Memory card - 512mb should do

5. 1 Null modem cable - Slow but you never know when your going to need it with the TM9100.

6. A decent FTP client like CuteFTP or FlashFXP for your PC - cracks available on emule for both - Just download a trial copy & patch it

7. Copy of Jiboot from Allsats forum

8. A big bottle of Whiskey

Don't forget to also kiss your wife, kids and family goodbye for at least 2 days as you'll be hooked very quickly and nothing else will matter until its working.

Word of advice though, you won't get it to read you Sky card using just CCcam, you have to use NewCS/CCcam or NewCS/MGCamd etc etc

Enjoy your new toy mate and welcome to the Linux club

Jiboot allows you install several images on the receiver at one time, so you can swap and choose which one to use

The thing that restores you box if you fook it up is called a Jtag cable, but you really don't want to go there, thats a last resort. Normally you can fix it with a serial cable unless you really fook up the bootloader

You need the SDcard to put the other images on with Jiboot and also to setup a swap file if you decide to use one on the MMC (SDCARD). You can also sometimes update the image with an SDCard

Sometimes with the TM9100 the only way to get a particular image on to it is with the use of a serial cable

Its also used as a good way of fixing a corrupted image. The Dreaded boot loop is something you will learn to love because it happens so often

The Pros and Cons are basically what the end user makes of them. There seems to be different reports for each image on different receivers. Some of my friends swear by the EDG Nemesis images, I swear at it

Its currently running DS4.0 at the moment and theres no major problems with it at, its all nice and stable and i'm happy with it.

UR14 doesn't give you any ECM or EMM info which i don't like although other than that its not a bad image

Andromeda is fast without a doubt and very stable indeed

Its a bit boring for my liking and like i said everything has to be done with scripts rather than pressing buttons

I can do it if i put my mind to it but in all honesty i can't see the point when its easier just to bung another image on the box

I must admit i didn't like the older DS images but they are growing on me now. DS 4.0 is running really well on my TM at the moment.

Different images have their own little idiosyncrasies like not coming out of standby - EDG Nemesis

Rebooting without warning - UR13.

You just need to experiment with it to find out what makes your particular box tick

I like the family bit

You being 16 explains a few things anyway, and i don't mean that in a bad way. It took me 2 months to get my Dreambox to do what i wanted it to so yes two days might be a bit optimistic

Nano

Im sure it will take me ages but im sure Il be able to get it to work!

its a great attitude to have towards the people I have convinced to give me the money to buy the TM

well anything iv learned to do on the PC, I followed step by step guides to get them to work its only after you get them to work that U start to understand what it does! il assume that the linux boxes are no different!

I can read all the guides in the world but it wont fully prepare me 4 when I actually have to do the things I read about!

How do you put the files on the SDcard through the TM?

Depends on which files your referring to

If its an image you just put it on using a card reader in your pc, however you need to remember to format it under FAT16 otherwise the TM won't read it

The box will boot from the image automatically if i remember rightly and should update the receiver, well it did on my old TM9100 before i purchased the Super version. You will then need to do a factory reset.

Switch on and hold the up key to get into the boot menu of the box, scroll up to factory reset, select it and then let the box do its thing. Do not switch off the receiver until its finished

Only use images that are for MMC install on the SDcard

If its an iboot image your talking about you will need to install it through iboot. Jiboot is just a Java Version of iboot incase your wondering. Just concentrate getting an image on the box first before you start to play with iboot though.

MMC is what the TM calls the SDcard

You format it by putting into a card reader (You can get an SDcard reader off eBay for about £1.50 from Hong Kong) and just use the format function on your PC making sure you select just FAT and not FAT 32
