Default Is my Sagem DBox2 terminally ill?

Received recently a Sagem Dbox2 two chip. I tried to upload 1 chip image and this gave me kein system. No problem I thought I'll just IFA a two chip image. Success I uploaded lackys-sylas image and added in my var and zapit folders. All good so far and the machine worked and I briefly had picture on BBC1. I switched to Sly Sports to update the keyroll but nothing. Rebooted and to cut a long story short the LCD display shows some numbers (see below) when machine switched on but no "lade" or a hintof an image loading. I thought I would reflash it with a different image but no matter what image I upload IFA doesn't send the box into flash mode.

The messages I receive are:

***Adapter Desc: VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter #2 - Packet Scheduler Miniport (via IpHlpApi #1)
***MAC address: 00:40:CAF:5F:98 Local IP: 169.254.236.249
***BootP server started... Port 67
***TFTP server started... Port 69
ootP> Request from 00:40:CAF:5F:98 - There is something wrong!
BootP> The request comes from the network itself (and not by the DBox), probably
BootP> running a firewall or any other server on the same network?
BootP> Answer sent!

RSH is in almost all Linux images is not configured / activated!
*** RSH will therefore only work if you have your Linux kernel have patched.

The comport message from dbox shows:

vdebug: DDF: Calibrating delay loop... debug: DDF: 66.76 BogoMIPS
debug: BMon V1.0 mID 03
debug: feID 00 enxID 03
debug: fpID 52 dsID
debug: HWrev 41 FPrev 0.23
debug: B/Ex/Fl(MB) 32/00/08
WATCHDOG reset enabled
dbox2:root> debug:
BOOTP/TFTP bootstrap loader (v0.3)
debug:
debug: Transmitting BOOTP request via broadcast

------ Systeminformations ------
Selected networkdevice: VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter #2 - Packet Scheduler Miniport (1)
IP-address of the networkdevice: 169.254.236.249
IP-address which the dbox gets: 169.254.236.202
Operatingsystem: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

The display on my box shows:

Bmon v1.0 mid 03
feID 00 enxID03
fpID52 dsID01-
92.d8.87.07.00.00-a7
HWrev41 FPrev 0.23
B/Ex/F1(MB) 32/00/08

All firewalls are off including windows firewall. Any ideas? I have hunted this and other forums for an answer and wondered whether the machine is "dead" or can it be recovered. if so, how?

try this also:

turn box on and press and hold power button and up button under flap... release power button and wait untill display seems to stick.

let go of button and power down (pull plug) then restart flashing process.... and plug in box.

this is a way of resetting the box ,, kind of like formatting a pc.

doesnt always help but anything is worth a try.

ive just done one for a mate who said he had totalled his dbox and thought it was dead, he was getting the backlight on lcd but nothing else but a reset and ifa sorted it no probs.

otherwise take box outside ,,, cover in petrol and burn box to death.

lol

regards dave

hi , dont know if its any help but i did a m8s that was doing exactly the same just could`nt connect at all , was about 2 give up when someonetold me how to do it using the null modem method , its a slow process , but it worked and saved the box . i then tried to ftp my bouquets across and still could`nt connect after a closer examination of the ethernet port two of the terminals were slightly bent and touching each other ,straighten these up and hey presto it connected first time , so might be worth checking this as well ,hope this might help .

Reflash it using a serial/null modem cable and the network connector, this will force the new image on

Have not had chance to try suggestions but I would say that I have tried to IFA the box with cross over cable and null modem and the box refuses to acknowledge the IFA programme

Sorry for delay in getting back but all options suggested in this thread failed to talk to box except the above. Trying the "reset buton method" still leaves me with the same screen on the LCD. Tring to force for the umpteenth time IFA doesn't work because the box seems oblivious to the IFA programme. LCD screen is still fixed.

Turning to hyperterminal. I connected as suggested and I do get the blurb on the screen. But after i get the dbox2;root line I don't appear able to type anything on that line be it letters or numbers although the computer keys work in notepad.

This is so infuriating grrrrrAnybody else come across this problem or is it time to put the box in the bin!!
