Default Failed socket A motherboard

Well my friends PC wouldn't show a picture on screen, so he tested the PC on another monitor and still no picture. He then called me and I told him it may be a graphics problem. So I come round with my geforce 2(PCI) graphics card and plug that into the appropriate PCI slot. Still-nothing on screen.

Am I right in advising my friend in getting a new(old) motherboard?

Could be a number of things.

If there are any beeps as the system tries to start probably not the board. If the system turns itself off then could be a short on the PSU. If there is no power at all then probably the PSU has failed.

Can u give anymore details ?

No beeps. Just runs smoothly(well if you dont count the noisiness of the HDD's) System does not turn itself off, and the PSU has not failed-working

In that case, it is likely to be the motherboard. The only other (less likely) possibilities are memory or processor. If you have spares you could try swapping them out.

Nope no spare DDR RAM and no spare socket A CPU. Well I told my friend to buy it before I posted here. I didn't want it to haunt me when another one didn't work. I ended up recommending him a bundle from eBay that has RAM and a CPU already with it

When you state you have tried another monitor did you try a different cable, from your monitor to the graphics card ?

does anything happen when you right click on the desktop ( where it should be)
it could be the monitor does not support the refresh rate the card is asking it to display. you would just get a blank screen. cya.
