Thanks Honcho

Can the first one be used if the split has to be made outside the house, (by a wall) or is there a special exterior grade one?

thanks guys.. what is a brown box?

I guess I will put some silicon and then cover the whole lot with an insulation tape.. should that be good enough?

After cutting the coax and fitting into the F plug, the black cable (with wire mesh that I've wrapped around it now) is not sitting tight into the plug at all, it just comes out if I move it a bit, and then the signal stops.. How do I make it sit tight like a proper connection?

I think I've 6.4 mm F plugs (not sure) which are standard for these cables..

pull the plastic coating back abit to make it thicker...would.nt advise to use silicone in case you need to access at a later date..just wrap a plastic bag over it then cover with tape...mines lasted over 2 years

Thanks hoppy, don't think the plastic can be pulled back, its quite brittle and I've cut it off now exposing copper wire to max allowed length with the splitter in between 2 wires. I am thinking of putting some insulation tape around the cable making it a bit thicker and then putting the wire mesh on before putting the F plug on top.. will see if this works..

This is exactly what I was thinking with the silicon.. I will follow exactly as you said above to cover it up.

If you cut outer plastic cover about 10-15 mm and fold outer braid back and slightly twist in same direction as f plug screws in, cut inner to expose centre core almost right back, then f plug should screw on fairly tight.
