Default fresh modem - blackcat ? yip - can't get it to work sb5101e noraml motorola page

hey all got a surfboard 5101e and in the 192.168.100.1 page it shows me the normal Motorola web page config.

So i tried to put haxor over the top of it buy using blackcat which connects and then went to flash, selected haxor used 0 x 10000 and it's just saying done....
Yet it's not flashing it over ?

I tried flashing back to the original dump but the when i go to write all then it asks me where the original file is and then the little line along the bottom just shoots along and it says complete. (once i've selected original bootloader)

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ? do i need a bootloader ?

Cheers

you need the plugin for 5101 support, by default the blackcat app doesnt work with 5101 modems.

however, blackcat isnt the best software to use, download jtag utility its far better.

thanks for the reply.

I seem to be doing too many things at once and I'm confusing my self a little.

I had a surfboard 5101e that had infinite on it and was told to buy a black cat cable which i did, i then flashed it back to the original firmware and then flashed haxor over the top of it and that went sweet.

How ever I'm now at a loss, which is of course what this post is about.

So factory standard modems (Sb's) have to be initially flashed using jtag?

Is this the same way that you flash the ambits?

I have softjtag (3 versions) for the ambit's and i also use the p option using hyper terminal to flash the file via tftp?

Sorry if I'm sounding a little dumb it's just till i get my head around it.

so your motorola is working ok and you want to know the process for the ambits?

is that correct?

sorry man no,

i have a Motorola that had infinite on (sb5101e) and i managed to flash that with a blackcat cable using the original firmware and then to haxor.

This modem is now working fine.

I have been given another surfboard 5101e that has the factory standard motorola config page that I'm trying to flash haxor on to it.

(i have flashed ambit's using the jtag lead and on them as you know you have to use hyper terminal and then get the p option back, these i have done)

could i take a dump from the sb5101e that i have working and copy it over to the new one that has the Motorola config page on it?

you can take a dump of the working 5101e and put it onto the stock 5101e.

just change the macs/serial number and you are good to go.

the motorola doesnt need hyperterm etc, just take a full 2mb backup with blackcat and write whole 2mb dump to other modem.

easy stuff

also, it sounds like you have blackcat and rs232 -> ttl confused?

the blackcat is the one that goes in your printer port and goes onto a 2x5 pin header.

and id still recommend jtag utility over the blackcat software.

to take a 2mb dump:

detect
getram flash
save flash

to flash it to modem
detect
ldram flash
program flash

Thats great news ! I'm at work at the moment and have to wait until i get home which will be a bit later on.

So plug the already flashed modem in and take a 2mb dump (read all) and then plug the new factory standard one in and go to write all or just write?

Do i use the ofset as well? 0x10000 and also i take it make sure i untick verify data....

(ps. why do people mention using jtag? is this what you normally would do if you didn't hav a dump of a flashed modem ? just so i know for future reference? do you simply flash the surfboards the same way as the ambit's using a jtag cable and hyper terminal)

Thanks for your time mate

jtag is the cable that allows you to flash the flash chip directly, the newer ambits dont have a jtag port and need to be connected via serial + hyperterm.

and yes, read all/write all on the flash tab if you insist on using the blackcat software.

i do have a jtag cable that i have used for the ambits, so i take it i could solder the pins into the board of the surfboards and use jtag to flash it.

i have soldered the 10 pin header into the board for the blackcat cable so i guess I'll use that tonight when i get in.

On my jtag cable it's set up for the ambit 255's and that so i guess using it for the surfboard i would have to use another wiring diagram for them or are they same?

i think I'm clear now that using jtag to program the chips is much better than using a blackcat cable......

So using a jtag attached to a surfboard and then using softjtag to connect to it is the best method for ambits and surfboards ? or do i use the jtag cable and then hyper terminal once the jtag lead has been correctly configured for the surfboards?
