Default which boxes work in which areas...

i know some of the tuts mention that certain boxes will and wont work in certain areas, and then some tuts contradict others, but can we comile a difinative list of hat will work where...

also, the boxes that will only work in a certain area, why is this? and are there ways around this? is it as straight forward as changing the NETID or is there more to it that that??

thats a very extensive list...

so why is it only certain boxes work in certain ares?

and can u force other boxes to work in the ''wrong'' area? i've seen people answer ''no'' to the last part before, but then i recall a post from a while ago where someone took a 2100 that wasn't meant to work and made it work...

i've not got any box in mind (yet... lol) its just things that i have wondered...

the older boxes like samsung 2100c,pace 4000 where made for specific areas so no you cant force net id on them only in some areas it works. samsung 2110c is the latest box by virgin so they work in all cable areas!

so how is it you hear of people using for example, a PACE di4000N in telewest? and there is another topic somewhere on here where someone has a 2100 working in telewest...

i've spend the whole day reading up on this. i originally asked cus i have been offered a 4010 but i'm in c&w...

from what i have seen, just on here alone there is an awful lot of conflicting info. people seem to have used a varity of different boxes, from different areas succesfully.

i read on another forum, that its not the hardware that differs between a davic and a docsis box, its just the hardware.

what i would like to ask though, is; if c&w is docsis and ntl is davic, then what is telewest??

right people lets clear a lot of confushion up here. the pace 4001 was made before ntl bought cable and wireless and telewest so ist is for the pure ntl area only. When ntl bought cable and wireless the pace 4010 was made which was dual compatable with the ntl and cable and wireless network. The samsung 2100 was made for use on the pure ntl and cable and wireless network also as an upgrade to the pace 4010. Ntl then bought telewest and the samsung 2110 was born which could be used on all of the 3 providers networks and this box became the new "standard box" So the pace 4001 is pure ntl only. The pace 4010 is pure ntl and cable and wireless. The samsung 2100 is for pure ntl and cable and wireless. The samsung 2110 can be used in any area
