Hi all!!
I have ordered a motorised dish and hope to set it up this weekend if it arrives. I have been reading through the guidance notes on the forum which are extremely useful. However there is one thing i am struggling with and that is the angle of declination- can someone please explain what this is and how it works?? From the guidance it say that the due south elevation angle can be calculated from SMWLink. I have been on this web site and whilst it advertises a free download of this programme i cannot find a link on the page for downloading it....am i blind? if someone has this programme can ou please advise what my due south elevation and declination angles are...my location is: - Latitude= 54.8749' Longitude= -6.4656' Thanks guys!! ![]() Trev |

Your nearest due south sat (used for initial set up) is 5W.
The elevation angle (motor setting) and declination angle or dish bracket angle (dish setting) are defined by your type of motor and should be documented in the motor manual. The motor elevation angle depends on you latitude. Ie. on a Moteck SG2100A your 55 degrees Lat would according to the manual be 36 degrees motor elevation angle. The Moteck SG2100A uses 30 degrees minus dish declination angle to give you the dish bracket angle. The manual says declination angle for your Lat would be 7.6 degrees. 30 - 7.6 = 22.4 Your dish bracket needs to be roughly 22 degrees. This is just a starting point and you will have to move the dish in the vertical plane to max the signal. Note that your motor may use a different angle calculation so the numbers will be different but the principle will be the same. Your Lnb when pointing at 5W will be practically vertical - no skew. Alternatively just set the motor elevation correct, and adjust the dish angle for best signal.

Trev , i have a fixed dish, and sometimes use the old yard brush for the fine tuning, and it works
