Default DVBSBridge - any success stories

Hi.

I would like to use Vistas UI as I am quite fond of it.

If you read the bumph about DVBSBridge it should connect to your Viewer (in my case DVBDream) and emulate a dvb-t card in vista? I assume that the decrytion will be done by DVBdream and it's softcam so in theory you can get softcam decoded dvb-c in Vista??

Just wondering if it is woth embarking on this or am I wasting my time?
(nb I have to be able to keep my Freeview tuner working in Vista at the same time otherwise there is probably no point)

I have TV pack 2008 installed.

Will have a butchers tonight. Ill post back if it works.

No experience, but it's (I think) your only hope for a TT/Softcam combination in VMC.

I remember that is used to only support one "stream" (i.e. one card).

I would think about using the TV Pack because you will be able to disable the DVB-T card from the channels it can't receive, and therefore won't miss recordings etc. BUT, I would try and get it working in VMC without the TV Pack first, if I were you. This will mean doing it all again after putting the TV Pack on.

You might struggle with the guide - most of us have put another card in in order to be able to get 14 days listings, otherwise you're stuck with 3days guide streamed from the DVB-T signal - which I don't know if it will work on DVBSBridge. This relates to TV Pack only, in non-TV Pack, you can use the Sky guide.

Report back, I've always been interested in this.

I use it fine with DVBViewer, i did use ProgDVB with DVBSBridge but channel changes were a little slower, unfortunately you wont be able to use it in conjunction with a standard DVB-T card in Vista or XP mce as they will see DVBSBridge as a DVB-T device and so will expect the same tuning spaces, the question has been asked if they could make a fake DVB-S tuner which would allow for more channels. The upside to this would mean in vista with TV pack you could mix a DVB-T and DVB-S device or if you have a redundent sky dish then why not have a DVB-S2 card for Freesat and a DVB-C card set up with DVBSBridge set as DVB-T and run Vista with the TV pack? when a Duel DVB-S2 card comes out this is what I will be doing as Vista will support 4 different tuners in home premium. Any way DVBSBridge works well just a bit of a pain to set up initially and also they are yet to figure out how VMC with TV pack sorts the channels while tuning, no matter what they have tried they are scanned in any order so you cannot presort the channels in your source program of choice.

Hope this helps you a little

Thnaks for the info guys.

I have already got the TV pack installed, so I thought I would have a quick butchers to see if Vista would scan my card and display the Free channels.

Alas no it doesnt work for me. Is there a transponder file located in the registry somewhere that i can check? (and edit if required)

I have been looking into this as well. So can I use TT c1501 dvbsbridge and dvbviewer to get windows 7 Media Center working with a soft cam?

How is the performance?

Hi paddy,
yes you can. Windows 7 has "tvpack" installed already. when u scan choose both cards (dvbs bridge will show as terestrial) and u will see the tt shown as clearcham. This will get u epg guide (u have to map the channels 10 min job). Also it is best to read the manual that comes with dvbs bridge as it is geared for germany to make it work and get all channels maped for uk u need to use frequency detector (inc in the dvbs package)
Hope this makes sence. let me know if u need help
p.s. if u change the date on ur system it gives u extra days on dvbs bridge, if u know what i mean

It's a real shame that we can't get VMC to use Clear QAM. I don't understand the difference but DE say it can't be done :-(

I wouldn't advise doing this on the newest version of DVBSBRIDGE. You'll end up with an error telling you to set your clock back or contact support. The only way to fix it is to completely clean your system of dvbsbridge
