Default EX5000PVR HDD problem

Hi everyone. Have been using a Eurovox MaxV and really liked it but wanted the PVR function. Just received two new ex5000PVRs boxes(one for my dad for Christmas). Flashed and scanned ok, but neither will recognise the HDD provided. I can hear them start to spin when I put them in, but box says HDD either full or not inserted. Do you need to enable them in some way? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Also take about a minute to display channel. Front display immediately shows channel number but screen blank for aminute (at least) then it comes to life. Cannot switch off during this period. I presume box is faulty, but has anyone else experienced any of these problems?

Thanks dally. From outside they look the same. Don't want to remove tamper sticker to see inside in case I send them back. Got them from mycablebox and from previous posts this supplier is ok.

For information: I called my supplier. To enable the HDD I have to power off/on the m/c and select record of the channel u r watching. Until this is done the HDD is not recognised! Tried it and it now works ok. He suspects that the delay in box coming on is the HDD booting up, but offered to replace if it does not improve. As the packaging is not shiny and the security sticker says Eurovox ex5000pvr I suspect I have got cloned boxes.

Question Re: EX5000PVR HDD problem & other issues

Now got the boxes working. Uncertain whether some functionality is correct, as it differs from my Freeview boxes. If the box is recording, either manually or by timer and you turn off the box, the recording stops! Frustrating if you need to go out and try and record the last 30 min of a movie. You have to leave the box on until you come back. It will switch on and off if the recording is timed, but if the programme has already started it will not turn off at the end of recording, even if you set it via EPG. As mentioned elsewhere there is a frustratingly long delay between hitting the record button and the recording commencing.

It's been well reported that the EX5000 doesn't support HDD larger than 120GB. Also some Hitachi and Fujitzu drives don't physically fit as they have protectors over the pins that foul the connector inside the box. To be safe get a seagate or WD drive.

Whilst I would probably take the above advice I had a similar problem when I attached a 80gb hitachi hd I got from PC World. First time I switched the unit back on it stayed in standby. Switched it off, removed the hd, switched back on got it up and running but it wouldnt record. Switched it off, removed hd, reinserted & switched back on and viola it suddenly worked! So far so good... have used the various functions and everything seems to be ok. If you can't get your money back on the 160gb see if they'll exchange it for a 80 or 120gb.
