Default comms error when using ethernet telnet possible reason/solution

Hi.
After someones Ambit 255 running Infinite Stealth needed the recent tftp ip change, they couldn't log in using 250 configurator via ethernet. All they kept getting was COMMS ERROR. Even after various passwords and comm ports were tried.

This was the pitfall. The username and password were changed from my default and various attempts in trying to use different and incorrect passwords, I think will auto lock you out of ethernet telnet comms.

I plugged it straight in seral max232, no log in required. Did what I needed to, along with defaulting the username and password.

Then I rebooted modem and could log in perfectly using the ethernet once again.

So I think after x failed log ins it will lock you out and you need to connect via serial only.
I don't know if this is any help to anyone.
